Aspects of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in an Indigenous Pataxo Community of Southernmost Bahia, Northeast Brazil

Background and objectives: Severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 caused the coronavirus disease
(COVID-19) pandemic. In Brazil, data remain limited in vulnerable populations, including indigenous people.
We investigated epidemiological, demographic, and clinical aspects of COVID-19 in the Pataxó lands of the
municipalities of Porto Seguro (PS) and Santa Cruz Cabrália (SCC), southernmost Bahia, Brazil, during the first
499 days of transmission.
Materials and methods: This was a cross-sectional observational epidemiological study on the clinical, demographic
and epidemiological aspects of COVID-19 in the indigenous population of Pataxó ethnicity, resident in the
