During the years in SYNLAB Eesti Kaspar Ratnik have been leading the department of molecular diagnostics and evaluated multiple assays, methods in the fields of infectious disease and human genetics. Many of those approaches have been realized in routine medical lab procedures according to ISO 15189:2012. During the pandemics of COVID19 he was a team member who set up large scale solution to identify the SARS CoV 2. The same approach was used in Estonia (collaboration with Estonian Health Board), Finland (in partnership with HUS) and in Belgium (project together with Netherlands, RIVM).
