The extraction of Cadmium (II) (Cd(II)) ions across a Supported Liquid Membrane (SLM) using Triethyleneamine (TEDA) in Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) as a carrier, was investigated. The aforementioned carrier was embodied within the microporous polypropylene membrane. Hereby, we present the results of optimization of certain conditions like acid and carrier concentration in feed and membrane phase respectively, stripping phase makeup, and their effects on stripping of the metal ions from the feed solution. 1.0 M HNO3 in the feed solution, 1.5 M in stripping phase, 3.75 M of TEDA in membrane phase and 2.36 × 10-3 mol/dm3 of Cd(II) metals ions concentrations were found to be the optimum conditions for the extraction of Cd(II). Some theoretical equations were proposed which were beneficial in investigating the extraction mechanism and stoichiometry of the physio-chemical proces.. View more»
