Cereal grains are high in bioactive health-promoting compounds and thus an important food source. Consumption of whole grains and their products has been linked to a lower risk of developing chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cancer, all of which are major causes of death and morbidity.
