Systematic Lupus Erythematous

Systematic Lupus Erythematous is also known as discoid lupus or disseminated lupus erythematous. An autoimmune disease occurs when the immune system attacks its own body. Symptoms can vary and can change over time. SLE most often harms the heart, joints, skin, lungs, blood vessels, liver, kidneys, and nervous system.

Systematic Lupus Erythematous (SLE) is also known as discoid lupus or disseminated lupus erythematosus. Systematic Lupus Erythematous is a chronic disease that can have phases of worsening symptoms that alternate with periods of mild symptoms. Systematic Lupus Erythematous is much more common in women than men. Treatment for Systematic Lupus Erythematous is not curative and varies depending on symptoms and body are affected area. Treatments may include anti-inflammatory medications for joint pain and stiffness, steroid creams for rashes, corticosteroids of varying doses to minimize the immune response, antimalarial drugs for skin and joint problems.
