Blood clot in one or more of the major veins that drain blood from the intestine (jejunum and ileum) leads to Mesenteric venous thrombosis. Thrombosis of the superior mesenteric vein is an uncommon but life-threatening disorder.
Treatment of a SMV thrombosis is by both mechanical thrombectomy and pharmacologic fibrinolytic strategies.
