Orofacial Pain

Orofacial pain is a general term covering any pain which is felt in the mouth, jaws and the face. Orofacial pain is a common symptom, and there are many causes. It is estimated that over 95% of cases of orofacial pain result from dental causes ex: toothache caused by pulpitis or a dental abscess.

The Orofacial Pain concerned with the prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of orofacial pain disorders. Orofacial pain includes a number of clinical problems involving the chewing muscles or temporomandibular joint. Common joint conditions include disc instability (jaw clicking/popping or locking), inflammation and osteoarthritis. Muscle conditions may be localized to the jaw or may include the neck and shoulder muscles.
