Drug Metabolism

Drug metabolism is the biochemical modification of pharmaceutical substances by living organisms, usually through specialized enzymatic systems. This process typically occurs in the liver and results in the drug being transformed into more water-soluble metabolites that can be easily excreted. Metabolism affects the duration and intensity of a drug’s action and can sometimes lead to the production of active or toxic metabolites.
