Abstract:

Patients who did not attend (DNA) and those who appear with lack of preparation (LOP) at radiology departments are among the factors which decrease clinical productivity and that leads to grow in spending. Although, there has been studies on the reasons patients provide for these factors and patient demographics associated with these factors, there are few studies that focus primarily on analyzing the financial strain the DNA put on healthcare systems and specifically the radiology department. As a result, authorities have focused mainly on interventions which target patients and less on the healthcare provision systems. Some have attempted to take drastic measures with chronic DNAs by telling them â??you are fired" This paper will use a case-study from the King Fahad Specialist Hospital, to estimate the costs incurred by the health provider, show that â??firingâ?? chronic DNAs is not a solution. It will also suggest effective means to reduce these costs.
