Abstract:

With the introduction of Cone Beam CT in endodontics it has become evident that many cases that appear healed on conventional dental radiography, present with evidence of periapical pathology when viewed with CBCT. This lecture will redefine endodontic treatment expectations based on 3-D evaluation and will present a treatmentphilosophy that incorporates laser therapy to achieve optimal outcomes. The lecture will uncover the reality of persistent and recurrent endodontic infection using CBCT and will take a critical look at the inadequacies of current root canal instrumentation and irrigating techniques. Emphasis will be placed on laser disinfection of root canal systems as well as other applications of laser energy in endodontic practice.
