Abstract:

A beautiful smile seems to reflect a certain style of living, and the enhancement of facial beauty is one of the primary goals of patients seeking elective dental care. The lower third of the face has a major impact on the perception of the facial aesthetic, and the role of a beautiful smile is therefore, undeniable. An understanding of golden proportion that has long stood for beauty may provide us with useful guidelines that can be combined with our existing knowledge and applied to our dental work for restoring dental aesthetics with reasonable assurance of success.?? A well designed smile is a product of consolidated efforts accomplished by accurate diagnosis, methodical treatment planning, use of advanced materials and contemporary techniques rendered by the skilled dentist?. If an architect can design a building why a dentist cannot design smile! Smile designing cosmetic dentistry is a modern art and science behind smiles. Some clinical cases will be presented to establish the above-mentioned procedures. The patient loves new smile and teeth and feels they fit his/her personality and idea of perfection. After above mentioned procedure, we are able to correct all of the patient??s concerns and achieve a great cosmetic result depending on the socioeconomic conditions of South East Asia. The procedure was smooth and predictable by following the proper protocol. Some dentists still believe that it (Aesthetic or Cosmetic Dentistry) is a ??violation of the Hippocratic oath?? to disturb ??healthy?? tooth structure, even if the patient is unhappy with their esthetics and that we should ??talk them out of elective treatment??1. There are some in our profession, however, that view elective dental procedures as ??unethical? and ??unnecessary.? Who really should decide when such treatment is justified? How wide must the diastema be, or how unaesthetic the smile? In this modern era of Dentistry, we now have the responsibility to not only diagnose and treat dental disease, but to offer solutions for cosmetic dental problem as well. Remember it??s only a ??good tooth? if the patient is happy. As a profession we must remember, we treat not only teeth, but also the person to which they belong using minimally invasive cosmetic technique. Introductory course on smile designing: Course objectives: Familiarize with techniques and materials for aesthetic restorations, brief discussion other ways of improving aesthetics, explore the possibilities that new technologies offer to the clinical practice and get clinical hints for successful aesthetic restorations.
