Calcium is an important nutrient for plant growth and development. It is an essential component of cell wall and it is a plant growth regulator. Application of calcium along with nitrogen and phosphorus enhances absorption of all major plant nutrients and enhance plant productivity. So the present study was aimed to prepare calcium phosphate nano (CAPNG) gel by coprecipitation method and to evaluate its influence on germination and biochemical characteristics of Vigna radiata. CAPNG was blended with neem cake and pellatized in a pellatizer. The influence of slow release fertilizer system on germination, mean germination time, seed vigour index, amylase , protease, total carbohydrates and total proteins of Vigna radiata was evaluated in pot study. Treatments for the study included water control (T1), and CAPNG (T2), Neem cake (T3) and CAPNG entrapped in neem cake (T4). Size of nano fertilizer ranged from 64 to 73 nm. Germination was 80% in T1, 89% in T2, 93% in T3 and 99% in T4. Mean Germination Time in T1 was 44 in T1, 47 in T2, 56 in T3 and it was significantly increased to 100 in T4. Seed vigour index was 488 in T1 and increased to 1126 in T4. Slow release fertilizer system has accelerated the enzyme activity during germination and it was responsible for the observed increase in seed vigour index. The concentration of Chlorophyll was significantly increased in T4 compared to T2 and T3. Keywords: Slow release fertilizer system, calcium phosphate, nano fertilizer, mean germination time, seed vigour index and Vigna radiata.
