In Modern Scenario of Human activities was the study of Plants & Animals particularly as sources of food and Drug. From earliest time man had to distinguish between those Plants which were poisonous and those which were not poisonous. And there developed gradually the knowledge of naturally occurring drugs. Nature has given us with abundant sources of different substances which are either used as food or drug. Phytochemical & herbal preparations for medicinal uses contain various types of bioactive and biological compounds. Such bioactive compounds are to be evaluated properly which include Extraction, Isolation & Characterization of Active Ingredients in Phytochemical & herbal preparation by using Analytical techniques. Extraction is the most important steps in the analysis of constituents present in Phytochemical & herbal preparation. The Plant extract are to be analyzed using Phytochemical Screening assays, Chromatographic techniques such as TLC, Paper Chromatography & HPLC etc. as well as Non-Chromatographic techniques such as ATIR & FTIR, liquid-liquid extraction and solid-solid extraction.
