PLGA-based nanostructures at biological interfaces: current status and prospects
26th International Conference on NANOMATERIALS
December 05-06, 2022 | Dubai, UAE

Abstract:

The development of PLGA-based polymeric nanoparticulate structures as smart drug delivery systems (SMART-DDS) is revolutionary. These structures at their nanoscale size exhibit excellent properties for biological interfaces involving biocompatibility, bioavailability, controllable targeting, penetration, and tunable release of drugs. PLGA can be copolymerized with other polymers to attain stable complexes. Many PLGA-based nanomaterials have received FDA approval due to inimitable features which enable the encapsulation of hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs for biomedical applications. Nano-PLGA structures have reduced toxicity and better colloidal stability at subcellular levels. They are best suited as scaffolds and drug carriers however process optimization through various synthesis routes can potentiate their properties to be exploited as multifunctional DDS in Theranostics areas.
