Abstract:

Spiromesifen [3-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-4-(3,3-dimethylbutyl-carbonyloxy)-5-spirocyclo-pentyl-3-dihydrofuranon-2] is a novel insecticide/miticide belonging to spirocyclic phenyl substituted tetronic acid class. Diamondback moth of cabbage is a serious pest which can be better controlled with spiromesifen. A field study was conducted to study the persistence and dissipation of spiromesifen on cabbage as per good agricultural practices. Applications of spiromesifen was given at standard and double dose of 125 and 250 g a.i./ha to cabbage crop. Analysis of the cabbage samples was carried out by QuEChERS method after carrying out method validation. The validation parameters studied were accuracy, range, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, specificity and measurement uncertainty (MU). Field sample analysis was carried out over a period of 30 days. The method validated for analysis of spiromesifen in cabbage and soil gave satisfactory results with recovery of spiromesifen from cabbage and soil was in the range of 85.44 -103.37%; LOD and LOQ, 0.003 ppm and 0.01 mg/kg in a range 0.01-1.0 mg/kg. The method was highly selective as there was no matrix interference. The method was linear in the range of 0.01-1.0 ppm with correlation coefficient ≥0.99 and MU, 9.9-14.9%. Initial residues of spiromesifen on cabbage from the two treatments were 0.640 and 1.563 mg/kg. The residues remained for 25 days and dissipated with the half-life of 10.634 and 18.80 days. Field soil was free from residues of spiromesifen. Hence spiromesifen can be used for the protection of the diamondback moth pest in cabbage with a pre-harvest interval of 25 days.
