In view of fast depletion crude oil reserves and All over the world the use of petroleum products has been increased tremendously. The diesel vehicle population is growing at an alarming rate. The emission caused by these fossils combustion in IC engines has been led to air pollution, greenhouse effect and ozone layer thinning and environmental degradation. The search for alternative fuels and reduction of exhaust emissions from the exhaust gases of IC engines has been underway for the past three decades. The vegetable oils and alcohols (Ethanol and Methanol) promises to substitute in diesel in diesel engines. However, the exhaust emissions from the alcohols fueled engines will irritate skin, eyes, nose, and throat and leads to bronchitis asthma with continuous exposer with this atmosphere in the long run. In view of this, there is an urgent need for the modifications in the diesel engine technology to suit for the use vegetable oils and alcohols (Ethanol and Methanol). Reduction of exhaust emissions. The four-stroke Twin cylinder diesel engine has been modified with two-piece piston as semiadiabatic with air- gap piston with platinum coating on piston crown to act as catalyst in this experiment. The experiments are conducted using vegetable oil and alcohols (Ethanol and Methanol) blends as fuel in this modified engine Based on the experimental results the performance and emissions of biofuel blended with alcohols and Fatigue life of conventional piston, and modified piston are evaluated. Ethanol and Methanol blended with Vegetable oils represent a good alternative fuel with closer performance and better emission characteristics like Brake thermal efficiency, Brake specific Energy consumption and emission parameters like HC, CO2, CO, NOx, Smoke and Aldehydes in conventional as well as in modified piston. It is also observed that Aldehydes level are lower in modified piston. Durability of Modified Piston has more life when compared to the Conventional piston by 3 cycles and the operating temperature of the engine is more by 89.420C for Modified Piston with platinum coating compared to the Conventional piston.
