Trypanosoma evansi is the causative agent of surra, a disease that occurs in many animal species. The disease is responsible for substantial losses in global production and can be fatal if not diagnosed early. There are different diagnostic methods for detection of T. evansi including conventional methods like light microscopy which is usually applied as a routine laboratory testing technique. Recently, advanced molecular detection techniques such as PCR .In this study, a comparison was carried out for used methods of light microscopy and molecular PCR, for detection of T.evansi. Blood samples were collected during 2020-2021 from Camelus dromedarius (n = 200 animals :137 local ,63 imported )use camels from the central slaughterhouse Al-Madinah region in the Saudi Arabia. Result for T. evansi , PCR was able to detect T. evansi DNA in (36/200) samples followed by direct smears (19/200). There was a significant relationship between techniques and infection with T.evansi (P<0. 02).
