Abstract:

Sildenafil, Vardenafil, Tadalafil and its analogues are the medication used to treat erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension. When a person takes a legal prescription medication for a pur¬pose other than the reason it was prescribed, or when that person takes a drug not prescribed to him or her, that is misuse of a drug. Misuse can include taking a drug in a manner or at a dose that was not recommended by a health care professional. In Malaysia, there is no control on how much of the sildenafillike ingredient makes it into adulterated products such as herbal medicinal preparations, vitality products, supplements, foods and beverages. Consumer easily purchase thru the online website or food stalls and wouldn�??t be warned about the dangers of overuse or possibly dangerous interactions the product could have with other medication. Department of Chemistry Malaysia do the analysis by the screening method for Sildenafil, Vardenafil, Tadalafil and its analogues in adulterated products. This is in house method which extracted directly with methanol then vortex followed by sonication at room temperature for 20 minutes. The extract is then filtered into vial and analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with diode array detector (DAD) under standardized conditions.
