Abstract:

4 -[2-(5-Ethylpyridin-2-yl)ethoxy]benzaldehyde is a leading active metabolite, which is one of the key intermediate to pioglitazone which is a well known pharmaceutically active compound and used as an insulin sensitizing agent in the treatment of diabetes. We have clubbed this intermediate with different reagents to synthesize newer analogs of chalcones, pyrimidines, Schiff bases, thiazolidinones and azetidinones for antibacterial, antifungal and antitubercular activities. Results obtained war very good and some of the compounds were found patent compared with standard drugs.
