Abstract:

In the present study, we are interested in the numerical simulation of the air flow in mixed laminar convection, in a twodimensional square cavity with a side length L while the isothermal sidewalls are moving simultaneously with an upward constant velocity in the vertical direction and subjected to a cold temperature. A constant flux heat source with relative length l is placed in the center of the lower wall. The other parts of this cavity are considered adiabatic. A mathematical model based on the stream function-vorticity (??-??) formulation is used. Discretization of the governing equations is achieved through a finite difference method considering a non-uniform mesh where the spatial partial derivatives and boundary conditions of the phenomenon governing equations are discretized using a high order scheme, and time advance is dealt with by the fourth order Runge Kutta method. The Richardson number (Ri), which represents the relative importance of the natural and forced convection, is chosen as the bifurcation parameter. Although the geometry and boundary conditions for velocity and temperature are symmetrical with respect to the vertical axis passing through the center of the cavity, the analysis of the first results made it possible to detect the existence of a radical change of the flow for values of the Richardson number between 15.6 and 15.7.
