1. Statement of the Problem: It is not uncommon to encounter an emergency during the daily practice of dentistry. In another words the dental office environment is not immune to the occurrence of potentially life-threatening situations. The majority of emergencies encountered are precipitated by the increased stress that is so often present in the patient in the dental office. Increased stress can result from fear, anxiety or inadequate pain control. An emergency is a medical condition that demands immediate attention and successful management. These are the life-threatening situations of which every practitioner must be aware of so that needless morbidity can be avoided 4,5. So there is a persistent need to include a module caring about these emergency cases in our curriculum. In order to implement this module we have to keep in mind that the Curriculum is a sophisticated blend of educational strategies, course content, learning outcomes, educational experiences, assessment, educational environment and the students’ learning style. Methodology & Theoretical While reforming curriculum to include this new module we must have a closer look at the diseases that current curriculum suffer from, to unaltered of our curricula in any possibly in order to fit with the current development in knowledge and new technology. Curriculum content: Basic science review A history record Principle of pharmacology Filed work Syncope / Airway obstruction Anaphylaxis: Asthmatic attack. Using the suitable learning methods depending mainly of constructive feedback and problem-based learning approach. Assessment methods will contain multiple choice questions in addition to the OSCE exam. Conclusion & Significance: Ensure the importance of emergency cases management from A to Z in dental college and having basic knowledge in these cases as well as skills to manage them. Finally, The ability to judge these cases during daily practice in dental office and make the right decision
Amirah Alnour has her expertise in oral and maxillofacial pathology. Her experience in oral pathology based on her double qualifications (oral medicine in university of Saint Josef and oral pathology in Damascus University). She has built also experience in nutrition and its prevalence to oral cancer after years of experience in research, evaluation, in cooperation with American university of Beirut and has published papers relating to this topic. Recently she has also finished her master in medical education.
