Abstract:

Background: Although OCD has major impact on familial, occupational, social and interpersonal functions, there are sparse
clinical research on the correlation between marital satisfaction and OCD. This study was undertaken to assess the correlation
between sexual dysfunction and marital satisfaction in a group of Iranian OCD patients.
Method: The study sample consisted of 56 (36 female, 20 male) married OCD patients (according to a psychiatric interview
and DSM-IV questionnaire based on SCID) between 18 and 50 years old who were referred to The Outpatient Clinic of
Roozbeh Psychiatric Hospital and 3 private psychiatric clinics in Tehran since 2011to 2013. Six Questionnaires were used for
study purposes including Iranian validated form of FSFI (for women), IIEF (for men), MOCI, OCI-R, Marital satisfaction
questionnaire and a questionnaire which has provided demographic data and other relevant information regarding sexual
function and OCD. The patients were not on drug or the beginning of the treatment was recently (less than one week).
Results: A statistically significant correlation between washing subscale of MOCI and marital satisfaction was found.
Similarly, there were statistically significant correlations between sexual function’s scores in female (arousal, lubrication, sexual
satisfaction, pain and total scores) with marital satisfactions score. Moreover, the correlation between IIEF/FSFI and marital
satisfaction was remarkable.
Conclusion: OCD affects on sexual function and marital satisfaction through avoidance, compulsions, impaired intimacy
and a high need to control the thoughts. Therefore, assessment of both sexual function and marital satisfaction should be
considered in these patients.
