Abstract:

Technological advancements in dentistry such as VELscope, Digital X-rays, Laser dentistry needs no introduction to the dental community and it is hard to imagine a dental office without such technologies but modern technologies powered by artificial intelligence and big data is paving way for even more advancements that would not only make a dentists life easy but make it a pleasant visit for patients and a more productive environment for office staff. This poster attempts to explore the application of technologies such as robotics and its role in implantology/dental assisting, virtual reality and its role in treating dental anxiety and augmented reality for treatment pre-visualization in a dental office. Although these advancements are in various stages of maturity and it could be some time before widespread deployment is seen, it is important to openly debate the pros and cons of such technological applications. This poster is expected to trigger a spark in such conversations.
