Abstract:

A field experiment conducted kharif, 2010 and was laid in randomized block design (two factorial) replicated thrice to assess the effect of boron application (4 levels of B: control, 0.2 ppm, 0.4 ppm & 0.8 ppm) on performance of seven genotypes (IET 20979, IET 21007, IET 21106, IET 21114, IET 21519, IET 21540 and Rasi (check)). The crop growth and development was evaluated at four growth stages viz., maximum tillering, panicle initiation, flowering and maturity. IET 21519 showed significant interaction effect for LAI. The superiority appears to be a genotypic effect as high LAI values were recorded from the early stages of crop growth. Boron was sprayed at 50 per cent flowering and SCMR values were recorded before and after B spray. IET 21007 recorded highest SCMR values at all growth stages. Based on the crop growth duration the genotypes responded to B spray of 0.4 ppm recorded higher SCMR values. Based on the results of the present investigation, it can be inferred that application of boron had resulted in an increase in grain yield of rice genotypes. IET 20979, IET 21114 and IET 21519 responded more positively to boron application. Increase in grain yield was recorded when B applied @ 0.4ppm resulted in highest.
