Abstract:

Detection of ESBL (Extended - spectrum β - lactamase) ? producing Salmonella has been found at many countries, including Vietnam. Infections with multi ? resistant antibiotic of Salmonella is associated with treatment failure. Moreover, circulation of Salmonella in community and healthy carrier is still challenge for outbreak control. This aim of study was performed (1) to determine the serotype of Salmonella, (2) to survey their resistant antibiotic, (3) to determine type of ESBL by phenotyping and genotyping. This is a cross ? sectional study. From 2011 ? 2013, we studied on 113 (55 from 2011, 40 from 2012 and 18 from 2013) Salmonella strains isolated from food handler without clinical symptom. Kirby Bauer?s method was conducted to determine their resistant antibiotic and Salmonella?s serotype was identified by antiserum. Combination disk method with cefotaxime, ceftazidime and amoxicillin + clavulanate was performed for detecting ESBL strains, PCR and sequencing were done for screening type of ESBL. Serotype of Salmonella was very difference in each year. In 2011, Salmonella OMA group E was the highest circulation strains, followed by Salmonella paratyphi B, Salmonella OMB group C, Salmonella OMA group B with 32.73%, 29.09%, 18.18%, 10.91% respectively, Salmonella paratyphi C was also detected with 1.82%. In 2012, Salmonella enteritidis was accounted for 30%, Salmonella OMA group B: 17.5%, Salmonella OMA group D, Salmonella OMB group C: 12.5%, Salmonella OMA group A and Salmonella OMA group E 1: 10%. In 2013, Salmonella OMA group B was more popular than Salmonella OMA group E and Salmonella OMB group C with 55.56% vs 22.2% and 16.67% respectively. Most of strains were resistance with ampicillin, tetracycline, sulfamethoxazone, and chloramphenicol. ESBL was accounted for 5.3% (6/113) and was almost found on Salmonella OMA group B, with small number of Salmonella enteritidis, Salmonella paratyphi B have also found ESBL. TEM and CTX, two ESBL types was detection on Salmonella isolated from food handler. Serotype of Salmonella is very changeable difference during each year and multi ? resistant antibiotic parallel with TEM and CTXM type ESBL are increasing in community, especially in carrier. This is the first time, ESBL was reported on food handler in Vietnam. Facing with multi ? drug resistance is still openly surveillance systems in order to outbreak control.

Diep The Tai has completed master degree in 2005 from University of Natural Sciences in Vietnam. Now, he is a researcher at Pasteur Institute of HCMC, Vietnam and works at bacteria fields. He has also studied at Pasteur Institute of Paris, Rhyukuy University of Japan, and Sydney University. At there, he studied not only on molecular biology techniques, cell culture, but molecular biology of the cell as well. His research focuses on epidemiology, development of new assay for diagnostic, produce of polyclonal antibody. He had published many articles about antibiotic resistance of Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio cholera, producing polyclonal antibody of Helicobacter pylori and genotyping of S.aureus. Not only do research, but he is an official lecture for many training courses which held for provincial preventive medicine center on quality management, techniques in the laboratory for diagnostic of enteric bacteria as well.
