Abstract:

Tetanus is a preventable infectious disease. Cephalic tetanus is the rare presentation in which involvement of cranial nerves occurs. We report a case of cephalic tetanus with unusual manifestations which could not be diagnosed at peripheral institutions & couple of pediatricians. This case is reported because of rarity of cephalic tetanus association with unusual age presentation, also associated with high mortality, to highlight the risk of cephalic tetanus as sequel of suppurative otitis media (SOM). Primary immunization of all eligible children as well as booster vaccination at appropriate time as an effective management strategy for tetanus is emphasized. Key words: cephalic tetanus, infant, SOM.
