Abstract:

Biopesticides are certain types of pesticides that are derived from natural materials like plants (Botanical origin), bacteria, fungi and virus (Microbial origin) and certain minerals when used as a component of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs these biopesticides can greatly decrease the use of conventional pesticides, while crop yields remain high. The BioPesticides control pests / diseases either selectively or with broad spectrum approach. Biopesticides are usually inherently less toxic than conventional pesticides. They are generally target specific and affect only the target pest and closely related organisms vis--vis broad spectrum, conventional pesticides that may also affect organisms such as birds, insects and mammals. Biopesticides often are effective in very small quantities and decompose quickly resulting in lower exposures, no residues and environment friendly. Reduce use of chemicals, Extend useful life of chemicals, Resistance management, Safer to use for plants and animals. Agriculture is the back-bone of Indian economy. Upto 70% of the population is engaged in farm sector directly or indirectly. Growing Indian population needs sufficient farm produce to feed millions. Farming and the agriculture crops are susceptible to attacks by various kinds of pests in form of insects, fungus, bacteria or virus or weeds and control of these has become necessary to reduce losses to a minimum sustain the environment too. After twenty years it was found that the level of synthetic pesticides were building and were not biodegradable and their harmful effects started coming out. So we have to protect our environment from the harmful chemicals.

Biography :

Amit Kumar Patel has completed his MSc (Agronomy) degree at the age of 23 years in 2012-2013 from Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. He has published more than 5 papers in reputed journals and some technical articles.
