Globally, cotton (Gossypium sp.) is a crucial industrial crop. Like most field crops, cotton plants in Egypt are frequently attacked by lepidopterous pests. The spiny bollworm, Earias insulana, is a mid-late season pest that poses a threat to cotton. Due to the numerous uses for silver AgNPs, several biological techniques are becoming more popular. In this study, an economical and Eco-friendly method was used to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using an aqueous extract of Origanum Majorana (Sweet Marjoram) and using the synthesized AgNPs to reduce the infection rates of Earias insulana (Boisd.). Several techniques were used to characterize nanoparticles, including transmission electron microscope (TEM), an ultraviolet spectrophotometer, Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), ultraviolet- visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and antibacterial activity. The aqueous media containing silver nanoparticles has an absorption peak in the UV-visible spectrum at about 430 nm. AgNPs were spherical morphologically, with an average particle size distribution of 63–85 nm. FTIR report revealed the presence of these bioactive beneficial bunches like phenolic compounds, amines and aromatic rings. It also investigated the toxicity of AgNPs and the plant extract of O. marjorana against the Earias insulana. The use of AgNPs was effective more than a plant extract to suppress E. insulana. In general, the first season's treatments with AgNPs and plant extract reduced the number of E. insulana larvae infesting green bolls by 44.73 and 37.53 percent, respectively, whereas the second season saw a record 60.4 and 51.82 percent reduction.
