Abstract:

Background: Several factors should be considered during treatment planning for achievement of optimal esthetics and function when tooth replacement by means of dental implants is indicated. A major limitation for successful implant placement remains the problem of inadequate alveolar ridge width, a minimum ridge width of 6mm is necessary for successful outcomes. The ridge-splitting technique aims at the creation of a new implant bed by longitudinal osteotomy of the alveolar bone. Objectives: The present study was conducted to evaluate and compare clinically, radiographically and histologically between autogenous bone versus a mixture of autogenous bone and ??TCP in cases of splitting technique for maxillary anterior alveolar ridge widening simultaneously with dental implants. Materials and Methods: A total number of forty subjects were involved in the present human study then classified randomly into Group A (anterior ridge splitting simultaneous with implant placement with a mixture of autogenouscorticocancellous bone) and Group B (anterior ridge splitting simultaneous with implant placement with autogenouscorticocancellous bone only). Results:A statistical significant differenc of increased ridge width and increased bone density score from pre-operatively to 6 months for both groups. There was no statistical significant difference between both groups in regarding ridge width & bone density. Conclusion: Ridge splitting techniques are useful for managing the narrow edentulous ridge for implant placement or interpositional bone grafting.
