A study on Fish - Poultry Horti farming system in high altitude and Tribal area of Andhra Pradesh

Abstract:

A study was conducted in High Altitude and Tribal area of Visakhpatnam district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The study com - prising Fishery Poultry and Horti. in 0.4ha. was conducted. The B:C ratio obtained from fish Catla in 0.3ha. was 1.98, B:C ratio obtained from poultry in 250 sq.m. was 2.08 and B:C ratio from Horti (Banana) from 0.1ha. was 2.7. These B:C ratios were obtained with the rearing of fish in 0.3ha. and on the fish pond 250 sq.m. of poultry shed with Rajshree breed birds were reared and sold in the market at the age of one month at the rate of Rs.60 each and on the field bunds (0.1ha.) banana var. K.B.S-2 were planted and harvested after eight months. The overall B:C ratio comprising Fishry Poultry Horti farming system was 2.25. This study indicates that farmers possessing 0.4ha of field could sustain his living with the practice of the above farming system. The study also indicates that agriculture with allied activities is always sustainable and beneficial to the farmers.
