Abstract:

Dental implants have become a predictable treatment modality for replacing lost teeth. The success of dental implants depends upon several factors such as good treatment planning, patient compliance and clinicianâ??s expertise. Implant dentistry is a merger of different disciplines of dentistry like oral surgery, prosthodontics, periodontics, radiology, orthodontics and endodontics. In most of the situations, surgery and prosthetic rehabilitation play the key part of treatment. But there are many situations where other disciplines play an important role. Usually, when the remaining teeth is involved in rehabilitation along with implants or where aesthetic concern comes into play often procedures like crown lengthening, post core build ups and even laser dentistry becomes applicable. Often patients are reluctant to extract their remaining tooth due to some psychological fears of losing their teeth or due to other reasons. In such cases, some salvaged teeth need to be restored by an endodontist, prosthodontist or general dental practitioner. In this presentation, three case reports will be discussed where an interdisciplinary involvement of dental treatments was deemed beneficial to the patients in achieving a successful outcome.
