However, as we age, significant changes occur in the microbiome that can influence our health and susceptibility to age-related diseases. Understanding these changes and their implications offers valuable insights into the aging process and potential methods for intervention.

An overview: The human microbiome comprises trillions of microorganisms living predominantly in the gut, but also in other body sites such as the skin, mouth and respiratory tract.
