IBD can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, environmental exposures, and lifestyle factors. Symptoms of IBD vary depending on the type and severity of the condition. Common symptoms include abdominal pain and cramping, diarrhea, fatigue, blood in the stool, and weight loss. Crohn’s disease is a type of IBD that affects the entire gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus. It is characterized by inflammation of the digestive tract and can cause ulcers, scarring, and narrowing of the intestine. Ulcerative colitis is another type of IBD that affects the large intestine and rectum. It causes inflammation and ulcers in the lining of the intestines and can lead to bleeding, pain, and frequent bowel movements. Both Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis can be managed through lifestyle changes, including a healthy diet, regular exercise, and stress management. In some cases, medications may also be necessary to treat IBD symptoms.
