Cosmetic dentistry is a type of specialized dental treatment that focuses on making your teeth look better. In addition to this even though cosmetic dentistry operations are typically optional rather than necessary, some treatment cases also have restorative benefits. Cosmetic dentistry is also the branch of dentistry that aims to improve the appearance of your teeth and smile. Patients who want to preserve their health, functionality, and attractiveness for the rest of their lives should turn to the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD) as their major dental resource. Enhancing your smile can have a significant impact on how you look overall even the least possible change in your appearance can increase your confidence and make you want to smile more.
Modern dental technology allows for a wide variety of cosmetic procedures, from simple colour correction to denture replacement and all in between. Typically, cosmetic dentistry deals with the overall aesthetic appearance of teeth, while general dentistry focuses on preventing and treating oral diseases. Cosmetic dentistry procedures are those that improve the appearance of your smile. They merely concentrate on the outward appearance of your teeth while assisting you in regaining both their functionality and general oral health. Inlays and onlays, teeth whitening, teeth shaping, tooth bonding, orthodontic treatment, and enamel abrasion are a few of the procedures covered by cosmetic dentistry. Cosmetic dentistry also includes some additional procedures such as dental crowns, dental implants, dental veneers, and Invisalign braces which are also the part of general dentistry.
The cosmetic dentistry procedure known as inlays and onlays are created by a dental laboratory, is also referred to as indirect fillings. They are usually preferred when a tooth has mild to moderate decay or not enough tooth structure to sustain a filling. The inlay is affixed directly to the tooth surface, providing the cusps with no damage. Your dentist may use an onlay to completely cover the tooth’s surface if the cusp or another large section of the tooth is broken. Historically, inlays and onlays were made of gold, but today they are often created in a dental lab from a composite porcelain or ceramic material and cemented to the teeth with dental adhesive. They offer strong support to teeth to prevent from additional decay or degradation, to strengthen teeth, and to restore their shape.
Teeth bleaching also known as teeth whitening can brighten and whiten your teeth by removing stains and/or discoloration. It can be carried out at home or in a dental practise. It is important to consult your dentist first because not everyone’s teeth can be whitened. Tooth shaping is the procedure where dentist can modify the tooth by filing or removing some of the enamel, sometimes it also referred to as “enamel shaping”. The results of this technique can be felt right away and are typically not painful.
The process of bonding tooth-colored materials to teeth is known as tooth bonding. A tooth that has been severely discoloured, cracked, or chipped may benefit from this procedure to restore its appearance. Orthodontic treatment is now not only for children, even adults visiting orthodontists have been increased frequently for cosmetic procedures. Consult an orthodontist if you have buck teeth or crooked teeth to straighten them. Another technique to eliminate discolouration is enamel abrasion. Surface stains are removed throughout the procedure using fine pumice in a micro-abrasion machine. This eliminates surface stains from coffee, soda, wine, and cigarette products. Enamel abrasion is ineffective for intrinsic stains, or stains on the inside of the tooth.
Not all procedures will be suitable for every person. The procedures are identified according to the patient’s needs. The most prevalent procedure in cosmetic dentistry is teeth whitening (or bleaching), among all the cosmetic dental procedures. It is a very engaging alternative for anyone who wishes to improve the aesthetics of their smile without having to undergo any particular invasive procedures because of its accessibility and relative affordability.
