The perinatal period, encompassing the time immediately before and after birth, plays an important role in determining the individual's neurodevelopment. Perinatal factors, including the conditions and exposures experienced by both the mother and the infant during this critical period, have far-reaching implications for cognitive and neurological outcomes. As they focus into the complex interplay of perinatal factors and neurodevelopment, they resolve the complex web that influences the emergence of cognitive abilities and sets the stage for a lifetime of learning and adaptation.
One of the fundamental aspects of perinatal factors affecting neurodevelopment lies in maternal health during pregnancy. The prenatal environment, complex connected to the developing fetus, can have a profound impact on the formation of the infant's brain. Factors such as maternal nutrition, exposure to stress, and the presence of certain substances can influence neurodevelopmental processes.
