Xiongwen Chen (also known as Wen Chen) is an assistant professor in Cardiovascular Research Center at Temple University. He obtained his BS and MS in Animal Physiology and Biochemistry from China Agricultural University and PhD in Physiology from Temple University. Trained by Dr. Steven R. Houser, a world renowned cardio biologist, Dr. Chen has been studying the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms for heart failure and exploring potential novel therapy for treating this deadly syndrome. Dr. Chen has published 36 peer-reviewed papers and 4 book chapters in heart failure research field.
As a NIH and AHA funded investigator, his discoveries of the new aspects of calcium signaling and the beta-adrenergic signaling in heart failure have deepened our understanding of heart failure and provided potential targets for heart failure prevention and treatment. He also explored the idea that there are new myocytes forming from resident cardiac stem cells in adolescent hearts.
