Waguih William IsHak, MD, FAPA, is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, and Vice Chairman for Education and Research at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. At Cedars-Sinai, Dr. IsHak directed the Psychiatry Residency Training Program, Medical Student Education in Psychiatry, and the Adult Psychiatry Outpatient Service and is serving as Consultant Psychiatrist, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Service. He has lectured and published on clinical and research areas, which include quality of life as a critical outcome measure of healthcare interventions, mood disorders especially depression, sexual medicine, outcome measurement in psychiatry, and computer applications in psychiatry. Dr. IsHak received his medical education and his preliminary psychiatric training at Cairo University School of Medicine. After a residency and Chief Residency in psychiatry at NYU School of Medicine, he completed an Academic/Administrative Psychiatry Fellowship at NYU. He then served as Associate Director of the Psychiatry Residency Training Program in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine and Attending Psychiatrist at Bellevue Hospital Center in New York City. Dr. IsHak edited/authored three books: the Guidebook of Sexual Medicine (A&W Publishing, 2008), Outcome Measurement in Psychiatry: A Critical Review (APPI, 2002) and On Call Psychiatry (WB Saunders, 2001). His articles have appeared in many prestigious journals, such as JAMA Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Harvard Review of Psychiatry, Journal of Affective Disorders, Journal of Sexual Medicine, Journal of Graduate Medical Education, and Quality of Life Research. He was also the co-author and designer of Psychiatry Education Programs on the Internet, and he is the author and designer of Health Education Programs for the Public, including the Online Depression Screening Test (ODST), Online Screening for Anxiety (OSA) and Online Screening Tests for Sexual Disorders. He is a member of several professional societies, including the American Psychiatric Association, American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training, and the Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics. Dr. IsHak was awarded the 2002 and 2010 Golden Apple Teaching Award, Department of Psychiatry, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, 2007 Outstanding Medical Student Teaching Award, Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Science at UCLA, 2011 Excellence in Education Award, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, 2012 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, 2012 Nancy Roeske Award for Excellence in Medical Student Education, American Psychiatric Association, and was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society in 2012. He has been a Chief Proctor and Examiner for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. IsHak is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association.
