Veena N Rao, Ph.D, is Professor and Co-Director of the Cancer Biology Program GCC Distinguished Cancer Scholar in the Department of OB/GYN at Morehouse School of Medicine She received her PhD from India and some of her PhD work was done at Max Planck Institute in Germany, University of Edinburgh, Scotland and MIT Boston. Dr Rao completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California, Berkeley ,Yale University School of Medicine and National Cancer Institute where she and her colleagues identified the ERG gene which is involved in prostate cancers. Dr. Rao career began at Temple University and then at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia as an Assistant Professor where she and her colleagues cloned the ELK1 gene. She moved to Kimmel Cancer Center as Associate Professor where she identified the BRCA1 isoforms, and then became Professor and CoDirector of the Division of Cancer Genetics at Drexel University.
