Dr. Swapan K. Ray received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Calcutta, India. Dr. Ray did his postdoctoral training at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. He held faculty positions at the Emory University and the Medical University of South Carolina before moving to the University of South Carolina. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.
Dr. Ray’s research interest includes the understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis of malignant diseases such as glioblastoma, neuroblastoma, and Ewing′s sarcoma and also neurodegenerative disorders such as spinal cord injury, brain ischemia, traumatic brain injury, Alzheimer′s disease, amyotropic lateral sclerosis, epilepsy, glaucoma,parkinson′s disease, and multiple sclerosis and also development of novel therapeutic strategies for their treatments in preclinical models.
