Dr. Papanikolaou is Senior Lecturer in “Food Biotechnology – Bioprocesses”. He has graduated from the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) on September 1993. His post-graduate studies have been conducted on the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine – Ι.N.P.L. in Nancy – France. He has awarded the following degrees: 1994: Diplôme Etudes Approfondies (D.E.A.). Specialization: "Biotechnologies et Industries Alimentaires". 1995: Diplôme de Thèse "Biotechnologies et Industries Alimentaires", Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique C.N.R.S.. Specialization: Industrial Fermentations.1998: Doctorat Ι.N.P.L., Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique C.N.R.S.. Specialization: Microbial Biochemistry and Biotechnology. From October 2000 to February 2002 he has worked as post-doctoral researcher in the AUA, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Laboratory of General & Agricultural Microbiology and as temporary Assistant Professor (non-permanent) in the Technical and Educational Institute (TEI) of Kalamata. From January 2002 to January 2004 he worked as Agricultural Engineer in the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) and as temporary Lecturer in the AUA, Department of Agricultural Biotechnology, Laboratory of General & Agricultural Microbiology. From February 2004 until April 2009 he was Lecturer and from April 2009 up to-date he is Senior Lecturer in the AUA and Department of Food Science & Technology, Laboratory of Food Microbiology & Biotechnology, in the field of “Food Biotechnology – Bioprocesses”. He lectures in graduate and post-graduate courses “Principles of Food Biotechnology”, “Treatment of residues and wastes of Food Industry” and “Industrial Fermentations”. Dr. Papanikolaou has participated (or participates) in 11 scientific grants, and has published 40 research publications in peer reviewed journals, 2 review articles in peer reviewed journals and 5 book chapters. He is also referee in various international scientific journals in the fields of Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology (>100 invitations).
Papanikolaou Seraphim research interest includes in Microbial Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Food Science & Technology, Food Microbiology & Biotechnology, Fermentation Biotechnology; Kinetics and Biochemistry of accumulation and degradation of storage lipids by molds and yeasts; Biotechnological valorization of agro-industrial wastes and residues; Production of microbial metabolic products (microbial lipids, citric acid, 1,3-propanediol, enzymes).
