Biography
Dr. Cabrales is an Assistant Professor, Department of Bioengineering, University of California San Diego, La Jolla, CA. He has received a PhD in Engineering from the University of Los Andes, Bogota Colombia in 2004. He has completed his B.S and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering in the University of Los Andes, Bogota Colombia in 1998 and 2000, respectively. He received several Young Investigator Awards from American Society for Artificial Internal Organs, Blood Substitutes Society and Microcirculation Society. He has served as invited editor of Antioxidant Redox Signaling, and is currently a reviewer for more than12 journals. He has published more than 86 peer-review articles and 6 book chapters.

Non invasive instrumentation, Microvascular regulatory mechanism, Oxygen carrier blood substitutes, Hemoglobin based blood substitutes, Tissue oxygenation and oxygen regulation, Plasma expander, Coagulation cascade, microscopy, model design for microvascular studies, Nitric oxide regulation and gas transport.
