Dr. Patrick McHugh is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Huddersfield, UK. He earned his PhD at University of Otago New Zealand. He has published many papers in the area of Pharmacogenomics and recently was invited to write a review on antidepressant Pharmacogenomics as the feature article for Current Pharmacogenomics and Personalized Medicine. He has served as a reviewer of peer reviewed journals in the area of Pharmacogenomics and Pharmacogenetics. He has received several awards and distinctions and has been an invited speaker at several international conferences.
The Pharmacogenomics, Pharmacoproteomics and Pharmacogenetics of Mood-regulating drugs (antidepressants, anticonvulsants, mood stabilizers) and drugs used in the treatment of neuro degenerative disorders. Trying to understand the mechanism of action of these drugs and also investigating novel compounds that may be used in the treatment and /or intervention of mood disorders and neuro degenerative disorders. Dr. McHugh is also interested in understanding the aetiology of mood disorders and neurodegenerative diseases, which may allow improved interventions of disease progression.
