Biography

Dr. Monique Mancuso is a Level III Professional Researcherin the Institute for Coastal Marine Environment of Messina, Italy. From 20 June to 4 July 2004 she was in a Summer School PhD "Environmental issues of marine fish farming in the Mediterranean" at the Hellenic Center of Marine Research (Crete-Gournes) working on the Research Project No. 6 "Sediment organic composition and meiofauna composition" under the leadership of Dr. Antonio Pusceddu. In discussing the report: "Meiofauna response to farm fish biodeposits (Authors: I. Mercatali, M. Mancuso, M. & R. Skora Almeda). From 1 March to 30 April 2005 (two months) she was an intern working at the Department of Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Biology, University of Santiago de Compostela - Galicia - Spain, under the guidance of Professor Alicia E. Toranzo and collaborating with Dr. Beatriz Magarinos and Dr. Ruben Avendaño-Herrera, dealing with the study of new molecular techniques (PCR), bacterial typing techniques (RAPD, REP-PCR and ERIC-PCR) and the development of a ELISA protocol for the detection of antibodies against Vibrio anguillarum and Photobacterium damselae subsp. piscida in sera of Dicentrarchus labrax. In 2006, she did her Ph.D. on Healty marine environment, Ichthyopathology and fish health quality.
