Biography

Dr. Monika Brzychczy-Wloch was awarded a Master of Science Degree in Molecular Biology in 2000 and PhD in 2005 from the Jagiellonian University, Medical College, Krakow, Poland. In 2004 she obtained a post as research assistant in the Department of Microbiology in the Medical College, Jagiellonian University, Krakow followed by an assistant professor in 2006, where she works up till now. In 2012 she finished postgraduate studies “Project management research and commercialization of research results” University of Economics in Krakow, Poland and have started five years specialization of the Medical Microbiology. Monika Brzychczy-Wloch has over 20 papers in the field of medical microbiology in peer reviewed journals and over 40 communications presented at scientific conferences. The majority of these focus on molecular characterization of group B streptococci. She was one of the members of a scientific and physicians group which prepared Polish recommendations for the detection of GBS carriage in pregnant women and for prevention of neonatal infections caused by this pathogen. Twice she received the Deans Award for scientific work (2009, 2010) as well as a few awards for communications presented at scientific conferences. In 2011 she received the Morrison Rogosa Award from the American Society of Microbiology.

Research Interest

Dr. Monika Brzychczy- Wloch Research interests Includes studying the diversity of group B streptococcus (GBS), their virulence factors, antibiotic resistance, molecular typing, prevention and vaccine development against invasive infection caused by GBS.  Moreover, she has been interested in human probiotics bacteria and their influence on human healthy. Other areas of interest include studying on application of new molecular methods in microbiology.
