He received his medical training at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and then completed a Psychiatry Residency at Duke University where he served as Chief Resident for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. While at Duke, he studied the genetics of Alzheimer’s Disease and received his Ph. D. in Genetics. His research focuses on parsing the genetic contribution to disease and identifying clinical sub-types that might differentiate more genetically homogeneous groups within common heterogeneous disorders.
