Dr. Maria Mercedes Nogueras was born in Barcelona, Spain. She studied biology at Barcelona University-UB (1996). While she was studying her degree, she collaborated with Microbiology Department (virulence factors of K. pneumoniae and Aeromonas hydrophila, 1995-1996). She received a fellowship from the government of Catalonia as a PhD student (1997-2000). Her doctoral thesis was based on the molecular characterization of Aeromonas proteins involved in virulence. During this period, she was a teacher of practical classes of General Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology (Barcelona University, 1997-2000). She received the Ph.D. degree from the same university (2001). She have been working at the Infectious Diseases Department (Corporacio Sanitaria i Universitaria Taulí Parc-CUSPT) since 2002. Her main field of research is Rickettsial infections. Nowadays, she led a line of research related to diagnosis of fastidious microorganism. She has been serving as the Main Researcher of projects funded by public and private institutions. She has also collaborated on projects related to AIDS. She has received two postdoctoral fellowships from Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology-SEIMC and from the AIDS-2002 Foundation. She studied a postgraduate in Bioinformatics (2010-2011). She worked as a Researcher of the Spanish Network of Research on Infectious Diseases during 9 years. Nowadays, she is a membership of the Spanish Network of Research on HIV/AIDS. She is the secretary of the Directive Board of the Spanish Study Group of Special Pathogens (Spanish Society of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology)
Dr. Maria Mercedes Research Interests includes Zoonoses, molecular biology applied to diagnosis of microorganisms, bioinformatics, HIV/AIDS.
