Dr. Bonini was awarded his Ph.D. in 2004 from the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. In 2004 he moved to North Carolina, for a postdoc at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, in the Laboratory of Toxicology and Pharmacology. In 2009, Dr. Bonini moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology and the Director of The oxidative stress core.
Dr. Bonini’s research focuses on the sources and molecular effects of reactive oxygen species produced in health and disease. More recently his efforts have been geared towards the understanding of the signaling roles of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species.
