Biography

Dr Luis Afonso is a Senior Research Scientist at the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Sciences and Manager of the Centre’s Research and Diagnostic Laboratory He is an Adjunct Professor at Vancouver Island University Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture BC Canada Luis received his PhD in fish physiology from the University of British Columbia BC Canada 1997 He completed his MSc in Aquaculture at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul RS Brazil 1992 He held an Associate Professor position at the Department of Animal Sciences Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul RS Brazil 19972000 He received the BC Aquaculture and Environment Innovation Award from the British Columbia Innovation Council BC Canada 2009He has published over 30 peerreviewed research articles including a book chapter He also serves as an ad doc reviewer for several fish biology and aquaculture related journals.
