Biography

Dr. Lona Louring Christrup is Professor  and head of Section of Clinical Pharmacy at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy , Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of Copenhagen. She received her M.Sc.(pharm) and her Ph.D. degrees from the same University. She has authored or co-authored more than 125 papers/reviews articles/book chapters/patent applications. She has acted as supervisor for 20  PhD students and more than 125 Master students. She has served as a reviewer of applications in a  pharmaceutical  expert panel for The Swedish Research Council  and as an ad hoc reviewer of papers for about 20  journals.

Research Interest

1. Influence of administration routes and delivery systems on the pharmacokinetic fate (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion) and pharmacodynamic behavior (analgesia and side-effects) of opioids, and the relation between the pharmacokinetic – and the pharmacodynamic profiles of opioids (PK-PD modelling) in both the clinical and experimental setting.
2. Quality assurance of pain treatment in both chronic - and cancer pain patients.
3. Development of tools/questionnaires for evaluating side-effects of analgesics with the aim optimisation of the balance between the pain relieving effect and the side effects of analgesics.
4. Quality assurance of the handling of medicine at intensive care units, elaboration of specific guidelines for handling of the most commonly used drugs (antibiotics, inotropics, sedatives, analgesics, electrolytes and parenteral nutrition).
