Biography

Janet G. Campbell is employed at the VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina and has served in many diversified roles in both the Federal and private sector. Dr. Campbell was awarded a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus in Nursing Administration from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center Memphis, Tennessee. She earned the Master of Science in Nursing Education from the University of South Alabama, and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus as an Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Most recently, she completed a post graduate certificate program at East Carolina University in the Adult Clinical Nurse Specialist program. Dr. Campbell received recognition as Summa Cum Laude for undergraduate and graduate programs and was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nursing, Phi Kappa Phi, and the University of Texas Medical Branch Hall of fame in 2005.

Dr. Campbell’s nursing career spans 22 years. She currently holds American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) board certification as a primary care nurse practitioner and as an adult clinical nurse specialist. She previously held ANCC certification in Occupational Health while working in that capacity. Dr. Campbell was recognized for her contributions to Federal service and professional nursing practice in May 2006 as Employee of the Year and received the Veteran’s Health Association Secretary’s award for Nursing Excellence as an advanced practice nurse. Most recently, Ms. Campbell was awarded honors for the Veteran’s Health Care Administration Best Practice Award for assisting with the delivery of a new Ambulatory Care Practice Model. Dr. Campbell developed an internal publication consisting of a core curriculum for Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) practice. Dr. Campbell also volunteered for an eight month assignment as a nurse manager for the organization while experiencing a transition of leadership as evidence of her commitment to the organization. Her civil service is evident of integrity and commitment which parallel the mission of the Department of Veteran Affairs in caring for our Nation’s heroes. She served in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and is the wife and mother of Navy combat hospital corpsman Veterans.

Her research interests are in the area of Occupational Health.
